THE PENNANT RACE IS ON AS THE TIGERS HOST THE TWINS
‘84 TIGERS HONORED MONDAY AT COMERICA PARK, RETRO JERSEY GIVEAWAY

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers chase for the Central Division title continues as they open a seven-game homestand on Monday, September 28 when they host the Minnesota Twins for a four-game series. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s games are at 7:05 p.m. while Thursday’s contest starts at 1:05 p.m. The Tigers then host the Chicago White Sox from October 2-4. Friday and Saturday’s games are at 7:05 p.m. while Sunday’s game begins at 1:05 p.m.

Monday’s 1984 Tigers World Championship 25th Anniversary Reunion, Friday and Saturday night’s fireworks, Fan Appreciation Weekend, Sunday Kids Day, and two giveaways – a 1984 Tigers replica road jersey and a Miguel Cabrera poster, highlight the homestand.

Tickets are available for all remaining games at the Comerica Park Box Office, online at www.tigers.com, by phone at (866) 66-TIGER (84437), at Detroit-area Meijer stores, and at Hockeytown Authentics, located at 1845 E. Big Beaver Road in Troy.

A limited number of American League Division Series postseason suites are available. Reserve suites for potential first-round ALDS games at Comerica Park by calling 313-471-2222.

Monday, September 28 – 1984 TIGERS REUNION – Twins @ 7:05 p.m. (Gates open early at 5 p.m.)

· The first 10,000 fans to enter Comerica Park will receive a 1984 Detroit Tigers replica road jersey compliments of Frito-Lay. Gates open early at 5 p.m.
· Fans have the opportunity to interact with members of the 1984 Tigers from 5:15-6:10 p.m. either during a question and answer session in the Brushfire Grill or during photo opportunities at Sections 125 and 144.

The 1984 Detroit Tigers will be honored during an on-field, pregame ceremony at 6:40 p.m. to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Tigers World Series championship. Scheduled to participate in the 1984 World Championship 25th Anniversary reunion are 24 members of the ’84 Tigers, including Sparky Anderson, Darrell Evans, ALCS MVP Kirk Gibson, 1984 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Guillermo Hernandez, Jack Morris, Lance Parrish and World Series MVP Alan Trammell.

· Staff Sergeant Jason Murphy of the United States Marine Corp and a native of Pickney, Mich. will deliver the game ball. Murphy has served three combat tours including his most recent tour in Afghanistan where he served as an imbedded trainer to the Afghanistan National Army.

Tuesday, September 29 – Twins @ 7:05 p.m. (Gates open at 5:30 p.m.)

· Specialist Jacob Wade of the United States Army and a native of Kingston, Mich. will deliver the game ball. Wade has recently returned from Iraq after serving his first tour of duty.

Wednesday, September 30 – COLLEGE NIGHT – Twins @ 7:05 p.m. (Gates open at 5:30 p.m.)

· Sergeant Vanessa Lopez of the United States Marine Corp and a native of Detroit will deliver the game ball. Lopez recently received the Latina Distinguished Service Award by Latina Style Magazine and the Department of Defense for her service to the nation. In her six years of service, Lopez has been stationed in Okinawa, Japan and has served a tour of duty in Iraq.

During the season’s final College Night, college students can enjoy $15 Pavilion tickets, which include an “Always A Tiger” College Night T-Shirt, along with special promotional offers from Verizon Wireless, Bookies Bar & Grille, and Famous Dave’s.

As part of Carlos’ Compañeros, Tigers outfielder Carlos Guillen will provide complimentary game tickets, T-shirts and the opportunity to watch batting practice from the field for members of COMPAS, the Center of Music and Performing Arts Southwest in Southwest Detroit.

Ilitch Charities will present representatives from 2-1-1 On the Go!, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Focus: HOPE, and Mosaic Youth Theatre grants of $30,000 each during an on-field, pregame check presentation. In August, Ilitch Charities hosted the One Team, One Community Gala and Celebrity Golf Classic to benefit the four noted metro Detroit not-for-profit organizations. Each makes a measureable impact in supporting the mission of Ilitch Charities, including community development, human services, education and recreation. Funds raised during the event allowed Ilitch Charities to make a total of $120,000 in grants.

Thursday, October 1 – Twins @ 1:05 p.m. (Gates open at 11:30 a.m.)

Friday, October 2 – FAN APPRECIATION – White Sox @ 7:05 p.m. (Gates open at 5:30 p.m.)

· Fan Appreciation Weekend, sponsored by Comerica Bank – 72 prizes will be randomly distributed throughout the game to fans in attendance including items from Belle Tire, Metro PCS, Famous Dave’s, Angelina’s Italian Bistro and Pepsi.
· Sergeant First Class Jamie Sisler of the United States Army and a native of Redford, Mich. will deliver the game ball. Sisler recently returned from his first tour of duty in Iraq.
· Friday Night Fireworks, presented by Pepsi, are free with game ticket and will immediately follow the game, weather permitting.
· One lucky fan will receive an opportunity to win $1,000 in the Pepsi Close for Cash contest between the conclusion of the game and the Friday Night Fireworks by throwing three strikes from various distances. Fans can enter for a chance to be selected at a participating Sam’s Club.

The Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, has partnered with the American Diabetes Association, whose mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes, for the season’s final 50-50 Charity raffle. The Foundation held a 50-50 Charity raffle every Friday and Saturday home game throughout the season. Tickets are sold when the gates open until the end of the second inning throughout the concourse, at entry gates and at the 50-50 raffle table near Gate A. Tickets are three-for-$5 with the winning ticket announced after the sixth inning. To date, the 50-50 Charity raffle raised more than $90,000 for charities, with the single largest 50-50 winner taking home more than $5,900.

During a pre-game, on-field ceremony, the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, will award C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, DMC Children’s Hospital and Fundacion Chamos Venezolanos each $44,000 as a result of a special fundraising event held at Comerica Park in July. That event, Keeping Kids in the Game, hosted by Brandon Inge and Carlos Guillen, and presented by Hoot McInerney, raised over $220,000 to support children's health and youth baseball.

Saturday, October 3 – FAN APPRECIATION – White Sox @ 7:05 p.m. (Gates open at 5:30 p.m.)

· Former Tigers great Willie Horton will sign copies of his book, “The People’s Champion,” at Gate A from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 4 – Kids Day – White Sox @ 1:05 p.m. (Gates open at 11:30 a.m.)

· Fan Appreciation Weekend, sponsored by Comerica Bank – 72 prizes will be randomly distributed throughout the game to fans in attendance including items from Belle Tire, Metro PCS, Famous Dave’s, Angelina’s Italian Bistro and Pepsi.
· All kids 14-and-younger will receive an “Every Kid, Every Sunday” Miguel Cabrera poster compliments of Meijer.
· Shirt Off Our Back – All fans in attendance have the opportunity to be randomly selected to receive a game worn jersey from a Tigers player or coach, presented on-field immediately following the game, weather permitting.
· Petty Officer Teisha Magic-Drakos of the United States Navy and a native of Brownstown, Mich. will deliver the game ball. Magic-Drakos served on two excursions in Iraq on the USS Iwo Jima in her 15 years of service to the Navy.

All Sunday home games are Kids Days at Comerica Park, sponsored by Pepsi. In addition to every child receiving a Miguel Cabrera poster, children can enjoy free rides on the Comerica Bank Carousel or the Fly Ball Ferris Wheel courtesy of Red Robin, free face painting at Gates A and B, and Pack Attack near Gate B at 11:45 a.m. Tigers Kids Club Members have the exclusive chance to take the field prior to the start of the game, deliver the lineup card to homeplate or announce the first Tigers batter over the public address as one of the Big Boy Kids Take the Field. Additionally, there is a chance for all kids to win one of four kids’ bicycles, compliments of Meijer. After the game all children are invited down to the field for Kids Run the Bases, courtesy of Pepsi and Upper Deck Trading Cards.
