Monday Links - NCAA Brackets Released, Brady Quinn Traded to Broncos, & David Beckham Out for World Cup
Written by Rob Rogacki

You can only fill out so many brackets in a day before making a stupid decision like picking Wofford to go to the Sweet Sixteen, so take a break and check out the other happenings in the sporting world from this past weekend.

  • You're probably getting ESPN's bracketology shoved down your throat right now, so I'll be brief on this here. If you want some real tournament analysis, check out our regional previewsKansas was given the #1 overall seed and the St. Louis regional. Kentucky, Duke, and Syracuse are your other #1 seeds. Make sure to read Basketball Prospectus's opinion on how the mid-majors were shafted by the selection committee this year.
  • Just three years after spending an eternity in the green room at the 2007 NFL draft, Browns QB Brady Quinn is on the move. Quinn has been sent to the Denver Broncos for RB Peyton Hillis and a couple of draft picks. The Browns, who signed QB Jake Delhomme this weekend, have apparently made their decision on who the starter will be. From the Broncos' side of things, check out Mile High Report, a big fan of this trade.

  • David Beckham is doubtful for not playing in this summer's World Cup after tearing his Achilles tendon in an Italian league soccer game on Sunday. I doubt Beckham would have made much difference for a team in turmoil, but nonetheless it's good news for the U.S., who is in the same group as England.
  • Remember that post that I promised on Austin Jackson, the Tigers' brand-spanking new center fielder? No? Ok, good. Jackson has been tearing it up down in Florida so far this spring, highlighted by a two-triple performance in yesterday's win against the Tampa Bay Rays. We'll be sure to pick up the baseball coverage around here when everything moves north for the regular season.
  • Depending on who you ask, Alexander Ovechkin's hit yesterday was either a blatant cheap shot, or no big deal. It looked bad, but Ovechkin can't be blamed for Campbell falling down, whether or not he ran into the boards. Campbell needs to expect contact there, even in today's NHL.
  • We're still undecided about a bracket challenge here at D4L (something about labor disputes, migrant workers' wages, and whether Bubba is allowed to name his bracket "Duke is a bunch of [removed]"), but Thunder Treats and Favre Dollar Footlongs are throwing together a joint competition for some nice prizes (phenomenal swag, if you will). Make sure you enter, there's still something for second place. In the mean time, I'll be deciding what to buy with that $25 Best Buy gift card.

Rob's Highlight of the Day

DeSean Butler's buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat Cincinnati was the start of what could be a long run for West Virginia this March. (Actual shot at 1:30). Click here for a fan's view of bedlam.
