In Mother Russia, Hockey Brawl You!
Written by Rob Rogacki

Little Gary Bettman can try all he likes to convince us otherwise, but the biggest reason why most fans go to a hockey game is to see a good fight. Dust off those passports and brush up on your русский язык, because the best hockey brawls nowadays are coming out of Russia. Saturday's game between Avangard and Vityaz was ended after just 3:39 due to a benches-clearing brawl involving nearly everyone on both teams.

The first video is apparently the preliminary fighting that sent several guys to the penalty box. Only the on-ice guys go at it while the crowd is going insane. I don't know if it helps or hurts that there's no commentary, because I wouldn't be able to understand it anyway. [videos via Puck Daddy]

One observation I had were the referee's helmets. Look familiar?

Russian hat

The second video is where the real action happens. Both benches clear and players are going at it all over the ice... except for the goalies. The two netminders can be seen near one of the goals chatting about various topics like their love for Detroit4lyfe and our witty banter, turkey-basting methods, and whether animal testing should be allowed by pharmaceutical companies.

Seriously, where are Chris Osgood and Patrick Roy when you need them?
