It is a gorgeous day outside and there are quite a few reasons why I’m in a real Chipper Jones mood today. First of all, the weather is amazing here in lovely Detroit. It’s 70 degrees and sunny with not a single cloud in sight. But more importantly, the Red Wings play host to the Blackhawks tonight at the Joe beginning at 7:30 ET and just down the road at Comerica Park the A.L. West division leading Texas Rangers come into town for a 3 game set with the first place Tigers.

The Red Wings look to take a commanding 2-0 lead of the Western Conference Finals before heading to the windy city. The defense was able to contain the offensive attack of Chicago in game 1 allowing just 2 goals with one coming off an Osgood miscue. If they can contain the Hawks tandem of Toews and Kane, as they did in game 1 where they had a combined 3 shots (0 until the 3^rd period), then I’m sure we’ll be discussing another Wings victory come tomorrow.

This may be a little premature, but I just wanted to inform those of you who will be making the trip down to Chicago for Friday’s game of some hot spots to enjoy yourselves at. One location is the Gin Mill Bar, which is a Detroit bar and is apparently a great spot to watch Red Wings games. This morning on 97.1 The Ticket there were several callers praising the Gin Mill for its great Red Wings paraphernalia and claiming that they felt as if they were actually in Detroit while watching the games. So this is a must if you’re going to be in Chicago and not actually attending the game. Another bar that is supposed to be a good party location for the Detroiters this weekend, that I’ve actually been to before, is Duffy’s.  So hit up one of these bars if you're making the trek to Chi-town this weekend.  Have a happy, safe, and Wing wheel filled Memorial Day.

Dontrelle Willis will hopefully build off his last start and help propel the Tigers to victory tonight.  The task will not be easy since he's facing Texas who has one of the best offenses in the Major Leagues. Feel free to comment on the game in our open threads in the forum.

We'll also be hosting a live blog for the Red Wings game, so if you, unlike me, own a computer we expect you to be here supporting your team and chatting with some of the biggest Red Wings fans in Mr. Rogers' neighborhood.

I'm heading out to enjoy the beautiful day, catch some rays, and prepare for what should be an even lovelier evening with a couple Detroit victories.
