Pistons Superfan to End Jersey Streak
Written by Rob Rogacki

Eric Matecun, a 12-year-old from Wixom, MI, will end a 4-year streak of wearing a Pistons jersey to school every day. He rotated through at least 9 different jerseys, none of which involved Allen Iverson (thankfully). His mom kept the number of consecutive days, 1,460 when the streak ends on Wednesday, on a calendar.

Even throughout this year's struggle of a season, Matecun has kept his head up. "Say those things when they're winning the championship again,” he said when asked about what other kids say about the team this year. If this kid isn't the biggest fan you know, then I'd like to meet someone who is.

So let me get this straight, he wore Pistons jerseys to school every day while they were good, and now that they stink, he's going to end his steak? And somehow that qualifies him as a super fan? That sounds like the complete OPPOSITE of what a super fan would do.

I wore Pistons jerseys to school every day when they SUCKED (in the early 90's). Still to this day, I don't even live in MI anymore, and I still wear one of my many Pistons jerseys almost every time I step out of the house - and this is one of our worst records in the past 17 years. I don't see how a kid flaking out on my team now that they suck is worthy of having an article written about him. Neither article said why he's stopping the steak. If I had a reputation like him, I'd make my streak last just so that people wouldn't think I was stopping because they had a bad season.

P.S.
I even bought a wore Iverson.

I can't say why he's stopping the streak, because the other article didn't specify. If anything, I'd assume it's a situation like his brother's where he wants to rock some other threads for once. I'm all for the home whites, but sometimes I gotta show the Wings or Tigs some love, and don't get me started on my Stafford jersey. Or maybe he's starting to grow out of them. That '3' in the picture looks a bit snug. We're in a recession right now, his fam might not be able to afford more $150 replicas. Being a fan is more than just wearing your team's swag day in and day out.

@michael Good question, but he wore the jersey throughout this miserable season. If he was fair-weathered he could have stopped when the Pistons were on the brink of losing a franchise record number of games in a row back in December/January. He didn't. My guess is that it's something similar to his brother where he'd like to dress a little more traditional. He'll be in 8th grade next year and then in high school after that with no idea how to dress "fresh" on a daily basis. As Rob said, true fandom isn't based on how many days in a row you wear your favorite team's jersey, but 4 years straight? Damn.
